The main objective of the SCERA project is to design a low-cost, disruptive, and high-impact technology based on a new smart functionalized ceramic device, electronically controlled to retain in-situ, detect, and eliminate organic pollutants and microplastics from water in an environmentally friendly and effective way.
The SCERA concept is envisioned to treat contaminants, especially those of emerging concern, including pharmaceuticals, pesticides, plasticizers, perfluoroalkyl substances, and microplastics of different polymers. Priority contaminants (regulated according to the Water Framework Directive) and legacy contaminants (according to the Stockholm Convention) will also be considered.
We aim at developing and providing a new science-based technological solution for the monitoring and remediation of chemical water pollution that is applicable and contributes to the implementation of European Union policies related to water quality and environmental protection.
This project will present:
- Proposals for implementation of the developed technology
- The conceptual basis
- Design and fabrication
- First experimental results
